We were delighted to host a private lunch with Michael Calvey - Chairman of Baring Ventures.

Michael was previously founder and senior partner of Baring Vostok, which backed some of the most innovative and successful companies among emerging market funds over the last 30 years, including Yandex, Tinkoff, and Kaspi. At its peak, Yandex achieved a market capitalization of $25 billion. Tinkoff and Kaspi grew to exceed $20 billion+ market capitalizations following their IPOs on the London Stock Exchange and NASDAQ.

 

In his newly published book ‘Odyssey Moscow: One American's Journey from Russia Optimist to Prisoner of the State’, Michael tells his riveting life story - from one of the most successful and legendary US investors in Russia - to being arrested on false charges trumped up by local business rivals.
