The New Private Sector Space Race
at Savile Club, Mayfair
12 March 2025
The space sector is no longer the sole preserve of government agencies. Private companies have entered the domain and are moving the sector forward at breathtaking speed. As major space institutions move beyond low Earth orbit towards new frontiers, a vast commercial opportunity is emerging - far beyond rockets and satellites. The opportunities aren’t just in space technology - but in the broader supporting industries, from data centres to infrastructure, on-orbit research and production of superalloys, next-gen computing and asteroid mining. For the UK in particular, now is a unique time to become a global leader in space technology.
A special thank you to our experts for a fascinating discussion on the challenges and vast opportunities for space-related industries:
Sanjeev Gordhan – General Partner at Type One Ventures – investing in companies that solve complex infrastructure and technological leaps. Portfolio companies include the likes of Space Forge, Open AI, Lunar Outpost, Hubble Network, Orbit Radian Aerospace.
Joshua Western – Co-Founder and CEO at Space Forge – forging materials in space that are impossible to create on Earth. With offices in UK and the US, Space Forge is an in-space manufacturing company, building the world's first returnable and re-launchable satellite platform – to unlock scalable manufacturing on-orbit of materials impossible to create on Earth.
Nicholas Russell – Strategic Advisor at Axiom Space. Axiom is supporting expanded utilization of the International Space Station, while creating the first international commercial space station to host government astronauts, private companies, and individual explorers. Axiom is also building next-generation spacesuits for low-Earth orbit, the Moon and beyond.
